The New Va-Va-VOOM

The Ingenue

Am in the process of scarfing down a quick lunch and while browsing through the news wire; leaned forward while squinting to see who this little hottie is.....scratch that; I didn't say hottie!!!! Nearly lost my lunch. Startled is all...not disapproving but Annie Liebowitz, I predict, will be getting a call from the Jessica Rabbit illustrator asking how she did it...

Va-Va-Voom circa 1988

  1. Love that you are already on the story GSL! I am so tired of this particular tale. Is that all there is to being a woman--long hair, corset, cleavage, nail polish, makeup? I find it offensive that this guy thinks those are the hallmarks of being a woman. That that is all it is about! If that's what he wants, to put on a dress and wear makeup, I guess it's good he is making the change, but at the end of the day he can't ever know what it's like to be a woman because he was socialized and raised as a boy! And reached the pinnacle of masculinity by winning an Olympic gold in the Decathlon!

    1. Interesting perspective Jill. The way he went about this makes me think the enormous public spectacle was an inducement.

  2. I thought it was a botoxed and remodeled Rene Russo at first. Is it wrong I am wondering if that is her real hair? or weaves? It's lately in a limp pony tail. I am only a bit gutted because this is only adding more fuel to the Kardashian fire and it seems we will be stuck with them a few more years...If it wasn't for rumours about him from decades ago I swear I would have thought this was just another extreme publicity stunt.

    1. Naomi,
Rene Russo was who I thought too; oh this certainly will add even more ridiculous spectacle to the K Clan circus.

  3. Bruce has had cosmetic surgery to "soften" his face from what I understand. As for whether that is all he thinks a woman is, I cannot be sure, but I think he looks smashing and I confess if I was to suddenly become a man after waiting 65 years to become one, I might go a little crazy too and try to look like Frank Sinatra or James Dean! :-) I am happy for her and hope this helps others and perhaps, in the end, the Kardashian juggernaut will prove to be of some value, considering the many millions they can touch and perhaps educate about the power of love...

    1. That was very well said Wendy and I've never seen any of these shows but perhaps a couple minutes worth of snippets and they all do seem likeable. Estella has always been a big Bruce Jenner fan since the K Clan show began. When I was a kid; Bruce Jenner was for about 2 years the most famous athlete in America winning the Olympic decathlon when doing so gave you the title "World's Greatest Athlete" and then the 'Wheaties Box' another ultimate symbol that "you've arrived". Having reached such astonishing fame, he tried to become a sports broadcaster and did that for a few years but he just wasn't very good. Not terrible but just not good; had no sense of the moment and how to communicate that to viewers so I think his broadcasting career petered out and then he became a speaker, made appearances, etc. what some uncharitably might refer to as a professional 'has-been' which was a big fall from the summit of being the world's greatest athlete, Wheaties Box, etc. Thinking back on his days as a broadcaster he did have what Norman Mailer referred to as 'media hollow' which I posted on as he seemed so unnatural in front of the camera like when the camera went off he throttled down to reserve power.
Enter this K Clan media circus and suddenly he's now performing his life before millions and I can't imagine there being anything healthy about that. I don't get any sense of the power of love in this "Let's Break the Internet" rollout and suspect everybody close to him has been negotiating with Diane Sawyer/Vanity Fair/TV networks to get the fattest juiciest contract in the history of Reality TV with all those close to him serving as producers, managers, agents, etc. I know you were joking regarding James Dean/Sinatra but I don't think Bruce was trying to become a woman; he's trying to become Rita Hayworth and even Rita Hayworth knew she wasn't Rita Hayworth. I also get a sense that Bruce/Caitlyn is a good person under all the spectacle and that good person has gotten lost in all this "Internet Breaking".

    2. Wendy said it better than I ever can.
I think I must be the only one who hasn't seen the interview.
We know two teens who are making the transition and just bringing the whole process to light is a good thing.

    3. I do hope it works our for CJ and those teens but if it had been my nieces and nephews I would urge them to proceed slowly and delay anything permanently surgical until later. I know how few people really know who they are as teens and perhaps in an effort to be 'edgy', rebellious, or fit in with a group they might do something they may later regret....if that transition involves surgery, and that sense of self passes, the results could be tragic. It would be different in every case, but I could certainly see some teens doing this for the wrong reasons because of the intense media attention.

  4. Uh...okay. More power to Caitlyn. She looks great, hope she's happy, but I'm over it. Top 5 news stories this morning on NBC was that Kimye is preggers again. Why the fuck would I care? Sigh, got that out of my system.

  6. I'm guessing the surgeon will be in high demand. She really does look like Jessica Lange now.

    1. I see more the Rene Russo as Naomi mentioned above with Rita Hayworth aspirations. Surgeon's phone ringing off the hook and fee has tripled. On edge of seat awaiting the Caitlyn look for Fall.
