Ladies, rest easy as GSL also thinks the above scene from Goldfinger is wrong on so many levels. First, I don't like the name 'Denk' and would have immediately assigned her a nickname far more clever. Secondly, he needn't have dismissed her so abruptly, suggesting a little errand such as picking up some nibbles or drinks for the older gentleman, heading to the salon to get gussied up for dinner or anything to allow her to feel appreciated while Commander Bond and Felix discuss urgent classified matters. Also, I thought 007's follow through was a little lazy as GSL keeps his elbow tucked in tighter generating greater torque and velocity while cupping his hand to deliver a most pleasing percussive snap...oh, and let's not forget an exaggerated follow through just so she knows you care.
Ladies from the Jersey Shore to Red Square anxiously await GSL's modern rendition.
GSL's pup and pony show is well underway with his travels keeping him on the go. |
Speaking of Jersey, GSL is right this very minute coming to you from the bucolic Woodrow Wilson Service Plaza on the New Jersey Turnpike. My pup and pony show is well under away making the necessary arrangements for my children's books series debuting around October 1st...and hopefully sooner. We will keep you posted on breaking news.
GSL is loving the Maxi from the have some decorum blog |
No doubt you have been hearing the same rumors that has 7th Avenue and the entire world of fashion on edge. Well, it's mostly true as GSL is basically done with all the way too tight, too revealing, too, too much of nearly everything I see nowadays. I really don't need to see the outline of every crevice of a woman I prefer not knowing and even if she is intelligent and charming, I prefer not knowing everything right away. Context needs time. When I begin a new novel by an author I already admire, I don't want to know what happens on page 97 until I've spent the appropriate amount of time on pages 1 thru 96. I'll go into this in far more detail in an upcoming post but my new aesthetic in ladies fashion is now towards the look and philosophy of the maxi, and even the caftan, and basically moving on from mini-skirts and even my old fav: the pencil skirt.

Dear GSL, all this travelling - are you sure you aren't on the run from those parking tickets? I'm sure you're aware that a meeting of your hand with my posterior would result in a forceful meeting of my little fist with your face! (I can be playful when I make the effort.) I must say, I have never encountered an avowedly heterosexual male with such a keen interest in women's clothing! We all have our secrets, but I'd love a little peek into your closet sometime. Claire
ReplyDeleteBeguiling Claire,
DeleteGSL as you'd be most pleased to confirm first hand is relentlessly heterosexual and know of no other hetero male who shares my keen interest in women's fashion and I'm quite accustomed being in a minority of one.
I didn't have more than a passing interest in fashion until moving to Chicago with Estella missing her GSL terribly I'd give her great phone while we both watched Elsa Klensh on CNN back in the '90s.
My dear Claire, we both know that little peek in my closet would really be to collect a souvenir to make your dotage wistfully triumphant and your granddaughters beam with pride...
Don't worry, your scalp (or what's left of it) will be souvenir enough. Have you ever been tempted to shimmy into a little dress yourself? Or tried sashaying down an imaginary catwalk? I'm just trying to guage how far your 'keen interest' goes...Claire
DeleteMy Dear Claire,
DeleteI do like the look of a well turned out woman entering a room feeling good about herself and what the evening may hold. To a far lesser degree I love a great steak with all the trimmings and I have about as much interest dressing in that stylish woman's clothes as being the black angus cow boarding the cattle truck bound for the butcher.
Darling Claure, your GSL thinks in terms of entering arenas where he's outnumbered but never out maneuvered. As foes start to encircle, I'll look to the fair maiden becoming squeamish about what she suspects is about to unfold. I'll flash her what Cheshire cats call a 'GSL grin' pick up a couple of rocks and take out my slingshot...
I was rather hoping you'd have a cannon! Claire
DeleteWasn't that Goliath's last taunt?
DeleteMaybe he was mocking the cut and cloth of little David's girly loincloth. Claire
DeleteDavid thought Goliath's manly enesemble only lacked a toe tag.
DeleteI forgot to congratulate you on your upcoming book publication! Are you self publishing or is there an actual agent and advance involved? Is this the series involving the little dog? Will you be doing book signings? Claire
DeleteOh yes Claire, I'll be a roving ambassador for the series and our website will have youtube vids introducing the series, stories, etc. There is also talk of library, school, bookstore appearances...so you can plot my movements.
DeleteAre you suggesting that I become your stalker? I must say, I've had better offers. Claire
DeleteMy dear Claire it wasn't an offer but at the appropriate time you'll receive a summons so enticing a horse's head couldn't provide greater encouragement.
DeleteMy dear GSL, I do hope that isn't a horse's ass talking. I don't want to be disappointed. Claire
DeleteI think it's great you are into women's fashion! I agree, I am looking forward to some looser clothing. Three things I'd like see go away: super tight jeans, cleavage exposure down to there, and ripped jeans. I'll always love a pencil skirt, nice cashmere sweaters, pearls and pointed toe shoes. :-)
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Vava
Vava you get it and I'm just starting to. Madonna and the 'K' Clan have mainstreamed vulgarity and overexposure in every realm. Only 2 nights ago I was in a Target and this 14-15yo girl was there with her late 70ish grandfather and his extreme discomfort over her attire was so obvious and sad that an older lady watching the spectacle told me she was glad to only have grandsons as a granddaughter dressing like that would kill her. .
DeleteJust wish skinny jeans would go away. Not sure who they work for unless built like a 2x4. Spring is here and I am ready.
ReplyDeleteT, even the metro boys wear nothing but skinnies no matter how ineligible.
DeleteYay...I got your feed! Don't change any settings :).
ReplyDeleteExciting news about your book. I totally agree about tight and over exposed. Tacky and glad it's shuffling it's ways out of style.
xo
My dear JC you always get it...ahead of the crowd.
DeleteGlad you have smacked down the fashion industry! Great news about your book! I am still plugging away, and ever hopeful!
ReplyDeleteHang in there Wendy as I'm sure your book will find many welcoming homes!
DeleteChildren's book?? Tell me more---I'm delighted to hear.
ReplyDeleteMy own fashion/shopping gene got left out at birth, (God bless Lane Bryant and their ever-faithful catalog supply in my mailbox), and so I am and have no authority on the subject whatsoever. But some people who are and do:
http://tomandlorenzo.com/
They're absolutely marvelous---witty and frank and with a turn with words which does not scruple to bon mot down many a maven, model and star. They're like your most fun relatives at holiday dinners, delighting most and dismaying the staid aunts and prim Grandmas, with a treasure-house of criticism and wit. Zippers and snaps, pins and needles, in every definition thereof. Do go see.
r
I'll be previewing the book series in upcoming posts Dearest Rachel and will swingby the tomandlorenzo.com blog hopefully this weekend sometime if the dust clears.
DeleteWonderful news with regards to your children's book series GSL, and do keep us posted with all the developments involved in that.
ReplyDeleteAs for demure clothing, I adore that skirt and upon seeing it reminded me of a similar one I had back in the 1970's with almost identical colors. I'm firmly rooted in the pencil department nowadays and have never worn mini's, and not because my legs fall short of the standards required to carry the style off well. They've just never appealed to me.
I am constantly shocked at the lack of decorum when it comes to young ladies' clothing choices nowadays. I'm also thrilled that my own daughter is not attracted to that "type" of clothing. We were recently watching episodes of To The Manor Born and she constantly exclaimed how stylish the main female character's sartorial choices were (Audrey fforbes-hamilton). Always immaculately dressed, stylish, nothing tacky and the outfits can be worn today and not look too dated because they are all classics.
Den Intel does mention a nice set of pins in the CD dossier being assembled. We're not the least bit surpirsed your father's granddaughter has a refined eye in fashion.
DeleteCD, I do still love a pencil skirt and know you'd look Old Hollywood glam and we are long overdue a peek as the adorable Trafalgar Square pic of yesteryear and the frock coat fitting leave us only wanting more!
Yes wonderful news about the children's book series, GSL! - both you and Wendy are doing amazingly well in that arena. Am very impressed as so hard to write and complete what you want to say.
ReplyDeleteLove Maxis, that image is awesome, great coverage and ease.
Also on my blog today - thank you for introducing me to Hilary Mantel - love her, Cannot believe i have never read her before
Jody, just knew you'd love HM and once you hear her personal struggles you'll be all the more impressed. You would rock a maxi and please post a selfie first chance you get.
DeleteHave fun in Rarotonga with Mumble and Papa!
I have a vintage lilly Pulitzer hostess gown very much like that final photo. I will have to bring it out when I untarp the summer house in the garden. Such a fun look.
ReplyDeleteJen,
DeleteIt does look very Lily doesn't it but a little more subdued and sophisticated than some of the Lily I usually see. It seems they sometimes get caught up in trying to look so Lily some of their designs look like caricatures.
Darling G,
ReplyDeleteWhat fun it is going to be to see you in print of the word rather than the fabric kind. We assume that there will be sightings and signings across the length and breadth of the USA if not beyond. Indeed, will there be a European tour at some future stage?
We wonder about what the content of the book will be. Young fighter pilots......girls, of course.......fashion aficionados ........boys, of course......or will it be horse whispers instead of man talk? Whatever, good for you to be pursuing the challenges of publication. It is indeed a rocky road.
To retain a sense of mystery with what one wears has always been our fashion motto....if, indeed, it could be called fashion at all. Clothing is so much more straightforward as a notion as it is simply designed to clothe. So often these days, we quite agree, one finds oneself begging people to put more on rather than take it off.......
Darlings Jane and Lance,
DeleteMy thoughts on Fashion are more toward it's supporting role in a great drama played out at dinner party, evening out, etc. in how it adds a small but significant element just as costumes, when done especially well, subtly enhance a great opera just as the sets, lighting, etc. but all is in vain if the soprano can't deliver the aria or the orchestra fumbles. Furthermore, I don't think of Fashion in my own personal sense nor is it often necessary, and possibly a needless distraction from intriguing central characters that make a scene, or an evening, especially interesting and rewarding and think of my Darlings Jane and Lance as cast in those central character roles.
