This Woman's Work

Kate Bush is a great Artist who has received far too little recognition in the United States. She never chased fame or courted controversy for the sake of publicity and while her list of accomplishments hasn't included chart topping hits, the test of time continues to rule in her favor.

There is a superb BBC doco on KB available on youtube that originally aired last year that you'll be richly rewarded for watching.

The Hounds of Love album is in my top 5.

This woman's work is among the greatest artistic output of my lifetime.

  2. My absolute favorite female singer, bar none! She is an angel on earth and I think I own every album she has ever released. So creative, ethereal, sublime. I only wish I could have seen her live last year when she played the Hammersmith Odeon, one of my old haunts. Long may she rule.

    1. I just fixed the post to have the correct link for 'This Woman's Work' which I somehow had never heard before today and have no idea how I missed it. So powerful, beautiful, and so Kate Bush and have been listening to it all day!

Did you see the BBC Doco? I never knew of the David Gilmour connection!

    2. Yes, saw it when it came out. David was instrumental in her early success and has even played on one of her albums.

  4. Kate Bush has the voice of an angel, a tortured intellectual angel! My gosh I haven't listened to her in ages so thanks for the reminder of her incredible talent. Hadn't heard of the doc on BBC so thanks for that G. xo

I just stumbled onto a fab version of Running Up that Hill with David Gilmour on youtube which has always been one of my favorite songs.

    1. I should have known you'd also be a huge KB fan Darling T as we always seem to be closely aligned on large matters of taste.

  6. I loved The Red Shoes back in the 90s but have not kept pace with her career. Sounds like I should watch the film.

    1. The Doco was very informative as I hadn't realized her early association with David Gilmour nor how young she was when all this suddenly hit and about her brother. Her early interviews when she was about 19yo give a delightful insight.
Now after you watch the doco, watch the youtube vid of KB and D Gilmour do a live Running up that Hill. You get a sense of her appreciation, his paternal-like pride, and that she now (then) very grown up now and very much her own artist.

    1. I heard that song for the very first time only moments after hearing of your sad loss and what I imagined you were dealing with and your close relationship with Alice was all I could think of so you'll be forever linked with that song with me....and I LOVE that song...especially the very first image of her as she looks at the camera.
