Tonight I'm Yours...

I think everybody has one special song that immediately takes you back to a time and place with an early crush.  The song retains it's power if you don't hear it very often and the person you associate it with retains a favorable place in your heart. For me, it has always been Tonight I'm Yours and I vividly remember from my high school junior year in 1981 of riding with my Estella (a horrible driver btw to this very day) to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1981 for reasons I can't recall although it's likely we were visiting older former classmates enrolled in University there. That song came on and she immediately reached down and turned up the volume and started shaking her head in tune... my crush suddenly became much crsuhier...

What's your song?

  1. Not necessarily a crush...I married mine...but every time I here Elton John's Crocodile Rock it takes me back to my first sleepover in elementary school and how we danced over and over and over to that record. Joy!

    1. As you may recall I posted on hearing that song for the 1st time as a college Freshman in Geology class from a car driving by in the quad below with stereo blaring. I knew immediately Madonna would soon be a superstar.

    1. Once again my dear FF, GSL quite pleased with himself as I knew that Rod Stewart pic would honor us with your visit.
A very Happy Easter to you and I'm sure Master FF will have a typically techni-coloured and delightful Easter basket to treasure Sunday and always...

  4. Too many songs, too many crushes, I was always boy crazy. Are you in the city? Do go to the Easter Parade on 5th Avenue if you are in town and get pictures of the wild hats, it's always a good time.

    1. My time in NYC was unfortunately quite short with no time for leisure last week Jill but would love to take in that 5th Ave parade as I do love hats and seeing the party snaps from the Conservatory luncheon.

  5. Picture perfect in pink is this pic of RS...looks like an Easter egg!
I agree with Jill,so many songs,so many crushes! For me, music evokes more a particular place in time rather than a particular person!
God, this comment is full of "p" words!
    Happy Easter egg,G!

    1. That's a great story Marie and this hopeless romantic is a sucker for sappy love stories.

    1. Stairway is such a classic that the memory it jogs must be very special.

  8. Oh Rod! What a guy! I can never be certain if I adore him or loathe him!

My song? It would have to be something by the BeeGees or stairway to heaven like Jennifer! Very junior high/high school. Oh wait - the Beatles, too... Damn, that's hard! Barry and I danced to Wild is the Wind by Nowie at our d

    1. RS is a very unique figure in music straddling genres and usually not taken too seriously as I think he deserves. He did an album set a few years ago called The Great American Songbook that will endure and I think helped place him in his rightful place as a great artist.

  9. I cannot help but to think of Bonnie Tyler each and every time Rod Stewart's name or voice is invoked. They were separated at birth.

    1. You are 1 artful dodger my dear CD and while Rod Stewart and Bonnie Tyler may indeed share more than a hairdresser, GSL was hoping you'd share that 1 tune from yesteryear that gives a total eclipse of your heart...

  10. Too many for me too; but then, I only went out with musicians until I was 34. lol. I do have some favourite Rod Stewart (The Faces) songs; Love Lives Here, You're So Rude, Handbags And Gladrags, Mandolin Wind, Every Picture Tells A Story, to name a few. I also love every song on(one of my all time favourite albums) Jeff Beck's, Truth.

  11. A really strange thing happened, somehow somehow you slipped off my sidebar, that was weird, have actioned the old husbstar to stick you back on (I am too useless to do stuff like that).
Anyway old Rod was married to Rachel who was a model from NZ so we heard a lot about him for many years. Think she left him because he loved his nights in in front of the telly and old Rach liked a night out on the town.
Someone in my writing group (an ex 80's supermodel) went out with him too before he met the swedish gorgeous one/ The person in my writing group is tall and blonde and skinny, shocker. That's all I have on Rod for now.
