Den OOTD Debut

The Fabulous MaiTai

I thought it only appropriate to begin with MaiTai aka "Queen of the Selfie" to set a high bar for the Den's inaugural OOTD and not just because she is a great beauty with a 20yo runway model's figure but she always is dressed in a way that's smart, stylish, and au courant without being hostage to the season's passing whims. Even though she has that perfect tall willowy figure she is often wearing something a woman of any size could wear. I could easily see my now matronly mother wearing a version of this outfit and look quite lovely but it still looks fabulous on a Fashionista who can look good in anything.

GSL's Sage Advice: get matching trousers and sweater-coat in your most flattering shade of base colour. Key is to get sweater-coat to precise fit and length...especially if you are petite. Those two base pieces allow for numerous accessory opportunities with various blouses, scarves, turtlenecks, and accent jewelry pieces. Actually spend top dollar if necessary to get highest quality and perfect fit for those base pieces as it will double or triple length of wear and has numerous outfit possibilities all in the same week.

The Den will be opening a Help Line to assist.

*That scarf is a "Zebra Pegasus" from Hermes that is taking the world by storm..just ask Faux Fuchsia, Heidi, Naomi et al.

  1. Wow! Great outfit of the day choice!
MaiTai is so incredibly chic and beautiful. I couldn't agree more with your sage advice - basics are the vital foundations of a good and versatile wardrobe.
MaiTai takes the best selfies ever - she is my selfie idol!

    1. I am on record predicting MaiTai will have the first selfie on the cover of Vogue. Anna Wintour should move quickly on this after that KK nonsense.

    2. You are so right! MaiTai would be a perfect coup for Anna post KK-gate!

    3. G-Cod tells me Gwynnie wants it and has been working with her yoga guru to nail the 'MaiTai Shim' pose...for those that don't know a 'shim' is a still of a 'shimmy'.

  2. MaiTai is truly the queen of the selfie outfit post. I honestly have no clue how she does it. If she ran a course I'd sign up pronto, of course it would be a sacrifice to travel to Paris but maybe we could get together as a group (discount?) to ease the hardship!
I've bought her sachets and they are truly beautiful, linen, perfect dried lavender, made in France of course! Her taste is exquisite.

    1. Dani, this OOTD would be a great look on you too. Does Brora do matching trouser-sweater-jacket combos? MaiTai's taste is exquisite. I'm going to get my mum one of her scarf rings...I had to google sachet...the Army doesn't issue those.

  3. MaiTai is just sublime. How does she do that full-outfit enigmatic smile but camera to the left so you can see all the outfit (which is always fabulous.)
Love scarves but can't do as have my father's short neck, more's the pity. Of course my Mum has the swan like neck but I am more than manchester side.
You have described MaiTai perfectly and encapsulated what every woman needs - that sweater coat and trew in same color - so true!!!

    1. Jody, that 'rock the red carpet' pose is known as 'The MaiTai Shim' as I mention above. My Intel chief says she defected from the Bolshoi during the late '80s driving Yeltsin to drink. Real name is Maieshka Taidova.

  4. Agree, MaiTai is truly beautiful and always the picture of relaxed and benign elegance. She knows exactly which styles and colours suit her best. Though this doesn't look like a real selfie, more as though her assistant (husband?) has taken a shot of her doing a selfie. Sadly, not all Mums can maintain this level of sveltitude as they grow older! (I for one!) I'm sure your Mum is still lovely.
The ZPegasus has taken the world by storm. In Sydney last Thursday exactly this colour was on display in the Hermes window in Market St. In chatter to the sales girls, we talked about it being the bloggers' favourite design this season! I too have it, but in a deeper colours, think probably the same as Naomi's. Looking forward to what may be a Peg mini-conference/reunion in a few weeks with FF, Heidi et al. Pammie

  8. She is also very gracious! I have three of her scarf rings and they are better than the Hermes ones. I like her selfies as well and followed her before the word selfie was entered into the dictionary do now she's like a comfort figure! Love the series by the way

Spot on with your fashion tips,G! You may just have to start your own line of clothing;-)

    1. Bebe darling, let's go for that Kate Hepburn 'Woodcock Pocket Story' look..along with those wellies go with LLB wide whale 'boyfriend corduroys' (if you ever actually hear me say that swat me with leaf rake) in kacki topped with fair isle pullover in medium brown over blue denim button down...that will stop traffic...or at least the school bus when the girls get home

  12. A good first OOTD with maitai Queen of the Selfie, and always chic. I saw yesterday that there is a new tv show airing in Australia where they follow fashion bloggers around to show their life (should be completely fascinating viewing. Snort). I was SO SHOCKED they didn't ask me. I mean, aren't my blurry photos with head cut off in my bathroom from the waist up good enough to classify me as a fashion trend setter??
I fear my blogging 'career' has been severely limited by my choice of a husband (not a professional photographer), and his reluctance to snap me fake walking down the street in daylight hours. I would book into that Maitai selfie course if she runs it!

    1. Heidi, I don't have TV and do all my viewing (youtube/Netflix) online. Time for those reality shows to go away and now we have the 2 Jenner girls rammed down our throats. Daily Mail has hourly updates. Much rather read about your reno, latest art acquisitions, and a summary of recent event/dinner and big bonus if we get a peek of braided updo.

    1. Lane, my guess is that each piece is whisked away to the Met's Costume Institute and kept in a climate controlled vault for an upcoming exhibition. I'll be there with bells on donning Z-Peg Ascot.

  14. MaiTai is the queen of elegance indeed. I've practically stopped wearing Hermes scarves as I look so frumpy in comparison.
